GUIDES/DIRECTORIES
  • digitalradiotech.co.uk
    • Broadband Internet Radio – "This page provides links to broadband Internet radio streams for the bigger UK radio stations that are at a higher level of audio quality than they're at on DAB. The reason they're at a higher level of audio quality is due to them using more modern audio formats -- such as WMA, AAC and Ogg Vorbis -- than the outdated MP2 format that's used on DAB. Furthermore, the audio quality of Internet radio streams is likely to get better over time due to Internet bandwidth reducing in price, which allows the broadcasters to use higher bit rate levels."
    • Internet Radio – "Internet radio seems to have earned itself a reputation for being at low audio quality, which in a lot of cases has been a fair criticism up to now due to the bigger stations typically using very low bit rate levels until recently. However, the Internet will become the system that provides the highest audio quality out of all of the digital systems that carry radio within the next year or two (as of 2007)!"

This blog entry was originally part of one that I posted back in 2005. It has been updated and is for those individuals that are more interested in radio than TV. It should be noted that whatever I say or state for Italy with few exceptions is good for other countries in the world. This is just a sampling of the thousands of internet radio stations available on the internet.

While it's nice to read about travels in Italy, you need to experience the real thing. I have been very fortunate to have travel as much as I have and to have lived in Germany, Kuwait and now Italy for extended periods of time. Living in a foreign country is not like moving to another state or across the country. There are major differences but if you are flexible and open minded, you will adapt to your new surroundings.

My wife and I have bought travel insurance before we moved to Italy for three main reasons:
  1. My wife had an elderly mother who lived alone.
  2. While both of us are reasonably healthy, you just never know.
  3. I had been laid off from my job (Information Technology) several times because of company mergers, corporate downsizing or economic conditions.
While our circumstances have changed, we still buy travel insurance when we travel because of the uncertainty of the travel industry (airlines going bankrupt or out of business, unexpected delays, etc.) and our awareness of our health situation. I am now in my 60's and my wife is in her 50's.

The reason that I did not list any specific travel insurance providers is because what may be a good policy for someone in my age group and interests may differ from someone else. There are many companies that provide travel insurance and you should select one that meets your specific needs and requirements. Please pay attention to the small print, restrictions on activities and types of travel, pre-existing medical/health conditions and age of insured individual(s).

There are thousands of restaurants in Italy. Some are excellent and very affordable and others that are not worth mentioning. My wife and I like to go to where the "locals" eat and where these restaurants are not looking for the "tourists" trade. The menus are in Italian only and the wait staff will only speak Italian to you.

However, there are many fine restaurants in Italy and in over 16+ years of traveling to Italy, I can count on one hand the number of restaurants that I would not return to for another meal.

If you are looking for real estate or rental information, I would suggest that you look under the section labeled "MISCELLANEOUS" above or search the Internet. There are too many web sites to list individually.

What you will find above is information for individuals: living in the Toscana (Tuscany) region of Italy, spending some time in that region or planning to come to this region of Italy. There is a wealth of information on and about Toscana on the web. This blog entry is not intended to be all inclusive but a sampling of some of the wonders, joys and sights of the Regione Toscana.

I am sure there are more books, blogs and other information on Toscana (Tuscany) region of Italy. When I move to Toscana in mid-September, 2007, I will be updating these two blog entries as I discover and learn about them. More to follow....
